How do I connect BX5 monitors to my Audiophile 2496 soundcard? Does each monitor need a separate cable (TRS to RCA for each monitor) or is only one cable needed (TRS to dual RCA). What cables do I need, etc?

I don't know what kind of outputs that soundcard has but I doubt they are stereo. Doesn't it have RCA outs? If so Each RCA jack is a single channel. You would go from one RCA to a regular 1/4 inch cable to the monitor. The RCA is not a balanced output, you don't need a TRS cable to your monitor.

Use one RCA-to-TS for each monitor.

"Tip-sleeve," as opposed to "tip-ring-sleeve." It's the connector you'll find at both ends of a standard guitar cable.

Here's one: click

I can't find any TS-to-RCA cables... anyone have a link where I can find one?

by the way, are you saying the BX5 monitors have TS connectors, not TRS? Someone told me a while back that they had only XLR and TRS connectors...

These are a little pricey, but they would definitely do the job: (click). I think part of the confusion may be that TS connectors often go by different names, like "phone plug," "1/4-inch mono phone plug," etc.

That is correct. But the BX5 manual says that if you're connecting an unbalanced source to the BX5, you should either use a TS connector, or else short the ring of the TRS to the sleeve, essentially making it function as a TS.

HTH,

they ARE a little pricey aren't they? oh well... appreciate they help man...

Personally I would just go shopping at Guitar Center (sorry!) for stuff like that. But now you know what to look for. (You have to know what you're looking for when shopping at GC.)

Yes, that would work. Just make sure they're long enough to reach from the computer to the monitors.

sorry, I edited the link... did you see the sweetwater.com one or the prodjgear.com one?

Both. The comment about making sure they're long enough was written before you changed to the 10-foot cables, but it's still relevant; so I left it in.
