I am curious if there is a way to record midi inputs while also recording live microphones. I currently have a Fast Track Ultra 8r interface and was given a set of DDrum triggers. I am looking to invest in a midi interface so I can record with triggers as well as the microphones. I was curious if there is a way I could connect the midi triggers to the M-Audio interface and record live microphones at the same time? Is this possible? Is there anything I could invest in?

You might want to get a dedicated MIDI interface that has several ins and outs. The 8R CAN record one MIDI in and one out through the port on the back, but you will need some type of cable to change that S/PDIF port to MIDI.

Actually, your unit should have come with a break out cable to connect to the back of the unit. This breakout cable has 5 pin midi in/out connectors and rca s/pdif connectors, so you have all you need.

In your DAW, you will just have to assign the midi ports from the 8r to a midi channel and start singing and whacking away!
