Hear me out please,Hi I would like to try and explain something' I own a vs880ex and i'm trying to learn the recording process, i'm a drummer but play most of the instruments in my recordings. This recording thing is all new to me so can someone explain why i was told by the music store where i baught my vs that when i am done recording all of my tracks i have to bounce everything to 7and 8 before laying the song down to a cassette or cd. They told me to make a stereo pair then mixdown to a cassette or what ever i chose.WHY?. What i normally do is record and bounce record and bounce till i have all the tracks completed, when i'm done i roughly have about 12 or 13 tracks recorded but play back eight cause i only have 8 tracks but don't forget i did some bounceing so i have in other words, 12 or 13 tracks playing back but comeing from 8 tracks.Example linked organ which uses 2tracks, 1 bass guitar trk, linked piano thats another2tracks used up, i'm not sure if i'm supposed to link certain instruments but they sound stereo true when i do, like the organ i link so i hear the left and right effect of the tremolo, the base guitar is a single track cause i want it center, i hope your with me so far, like i said i'm just learning. So when i get all the tracks done i just connect a line out to the in's of the cd recorder and thats it. Now what is wrong with doing it that way?.Oh also the first 6 tracks i record, i do my panning before recording the 6 tracks to the two left over tracks now i have 6 available tracks to record more instruments to. Like i said before, i then play back the song do what ever adjusting to the sound then line out to a deck to make my final.I just want to know what they meant when they told me to get all that recorded tracks and place them on to two tracks before sending to a tape deck or to make my final copy. I think doing it the way i explained is okay cause im recording a left and right signal when i come out the back of the vs to the in's , left and right of the tape deck. I don't know if i'm doing this right but is there a sound differance in the two ways i explained above. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this the right way. Thank you kindly

It is OK to mix down all 8 tracks to the stereo out of your machine to your mix down deck.If it sounds good to you and you know what your sound is before it hits tape (or cd) it will be fine.If you are going to use a CD burner that does not have an analog input you must first "bounce your mix to a stereo pair of tracks and burn the stereo pair to the cd.

It's probably only if you use a SCSI CD-burner you have to do that (I think - but I'm not sure if you need that even then), else you can just play the 8 tracks as they are... (for example to a minidisk or audio CD recorder (using digital or analog connections). If you want to learn more about your VS - here is a good place: www.vsplanet.com
