Concert live recording.

How do you record live gigs? I used a splitter snake, fire wire mixer got all drums separate, guitars, bass keyboards and vocals plus a line for the main mix. What is your recommendation and style?

My style? Man, there are so many different venues and boards that you just go with what you get.

If I'm lucky there is a splitter snake.

Otherwise I take direct outs of the monitor board.

Otherwise I take direct outs of the main board.

Otherwise I take the inserts out of the main board (to the first "click" to act as a direct out).

Otherwise I grab two empty aux sends from the main board and cobble together a stereo mix on the aux knobs.

Otherwise I grab the headphone out.

Otherwise I stick a mic in the back of the room (actually, I always do this in addition).

Otherwise I use the voice recorder on my phone. :D

make sure that your not using a cheap splitter.
You need ISO balanced transformers at each channel or the FOH main mix or your recording is to experience some buzzing. the real good splitters have a ground lift on each channel too.
Plus never forget to turn all phantom power off at your end let the FOH or monitor world worry about that, two different phantom sources will lead to problems in the main mix or your recording.
