I'm looking at getting the M-Audio Octane and an ADAT card to use as an interface but i have some concerns that maybe you guys could help me through.
1) The Octane doesn't support higher than 48k (does 96k and higher make a difference?)
2) I need to select a good ADAT card
3) What would I use to monitor while mixing and such? Does that come with the ADAT card?

1) I'm quite pleased with 48kHz (not doing any work for DVD so not a requirement).
2) An Emu 1212M would be a fine choice.
3) The Octane only does A/D it has no D/A converters, so you would monitor off of the Emu.

I don't use an Emu card. I use a MOTU 828mkII, but I've heard good things about the Emu's.

Yeah, but the 1212m doesn't have any analog outs. How do you get the signal to your speakers???

The 1212M most certainly does have analog outs (and ins, as well...)

Other cards that are primarily ADAT, like the Steinberg 2020 and the EWS 88D, also have analog outs.

I personally dont think it's really a necessity, but there will always be those who do. It's one of those things over which debate rages on but never is resolutely solved.

The main reason I don't use 96k is that it takes up twice as much disk space as 48k. Well, actually I use 44.1 @ 24-bit. For home recording I think 96k is overkill.
