64 mb ddr ati raedon vga
burner
6 usb 2 firewire

suggest you read the athlon 64 thread in the soundcard section going on currently.
you might find it interesting.

yea that would be a very fast system...I would recommend going with an athlon 64 chip, but this isn't about amd versus intel. The third hard drive seems overkill to me if you're just laying beats with vocals over them, but thats just me. It doesn't sound like you're doing multiple track recording at once, in which case that computer is more than enough for what you're looking for. ditto on what manning said...theres been a lot of talk about the athlon 64 chips lately...read up on that a little bit before you make a decision.

Yeah that would be a good system.
You could lose the hd3 though, you don't want to mess with Raid if that's what you're planning.

That's kinda pricey though. Does that include a flat screen monitor? If not, that's definitely pricey.

I priced a similar spec'd system based on an Asus mobo, P4, 1GB ram blahblah at newegg and it came in at under $800 without the monitor

no, thats the downside...you have to build the computer yourself. It's not as hard as it sounds, and is what most people around here are doing. You'll save a ton of money, but need to decide if it's worth the time for your or not. There are a lot of great resources online that can show you how to do it.

how long does it take, usually. and do you have to be like a super genius or somthin, to do i. i have the time, but what will i buy something expensive and mess it, then i'm screwed. can i buy the stuff and take to get built somewhere.

just make sure you read up really well on it before you start putting things together...you dont have to be a rocket scientist, but it helps if you know some stuff about computers.

Here's a system I priced up at newegg

Asus P4C800-deluxe $158
P4 3.0E 1mb cache $189
Corsair XMS xtreme 2x512MB $228
Seagate Barracuda 2x120GB $178
Gigabyte ATI radeon 128MB 8xAGP $ 73
NEC 16X double layer cd/dvd burner $ 68
Case + 400W PS $ 35
ADIDAV 17" LCD 16ms monitor $262

All up $1191

A Bulls Hit thanx for the info, i started searching alot, and found dis place www.adamant.com. they got some real good prices, compared to what i was lookin at. the only thing is each website i go to has a whole different setup to enter the specs and i'm not real good with computer stuff so i'm kinda confused., these is probally some dumb ass questions but i got to ask. i want more than one hard so would dual hdd mean 2 hard drives and since all i'm doin is recording music all i need is a motherboard the processor, memory, hard drive and the cd-rom and stuff right. also is ausus a good motherboard.

Thax for ya time

Asus make rock solid mobos that overclock easily.

That spec is very similar to what I run in my DAW except I've a slightly older model mobo and a 2.8 P4, that I've overclocked to 3.45Ghz.

You could order that stuff there as is. The only thing to do would be go to the Asus site first & check that the Corsair memeory is compatible with the mobo.

And yeah you want 2 HDs

Call around your town or become friends with a computer person and just buy all the parts and give it to them then maybe 50-100 bucks later you'll know it's put toghter right and you don't have to worry about it.

If you want extra HD's instead of having to install a IDE controller just buy a ata hard drive and theirs boxes on newegg that can convert it into firewire or usb2.0 external for 30 bucks so you can just plug it in and even take it to another studio with ease.

$1470 for a P4 3.2???? Damn, that must either be a Carillion or MusicXPC.
