I tried connecting my sound card to the back of my home stereo to get a better sound than my computer speakers but when i did this the signal came thru too loud...i have a live drive sound card and i used a cable w/ 1/8" connector on one side and rca on the other............then i hooked it up from the back of my computer to a little berringer type 6 channel mixer and the mixer to the back of my home stereo and it sounded good....is this right?...why is the mixer making this work?.....i was using the mixer for the inputs but do i now need to get one for the output or is their a better cheep solution.....

It sounds like your mixer attenuated the signal enough to make it sound better. If you want to plug your sound card out into your stereo directly, you should be able to. Just make sure you turn the volume for your sound card in the computer down to a suitable level where it sounds good in your stereo. Also, make sure you are not plugging it into a PHONO input on the stereo. Use a cassette deck input if you have one.

thanks
