I have a HP Pavillion 9600 733 MhZ with 128 MB and 40 GB harddrive,

now lets say I have the right soundcard, and equipment and software.

Would there be issues with me recording say just vocals on beats with the above specification? Keep in mind I will be doing trying to record studio quality materail, meaning dobuling, ad-lib and everything else in between. Will I have problams with TOO much slowdowns or things of that sort with my setup?

I would also like to record electric guiter on beats with the same setup.

Bump the RAM up to 512mb and you should be good to go.

Yeah definitely need 512 ram, hope you can only put 2 256mb sticks, 766 processor wont accept a 512 stick. Anyway yuo atleast need 15 gig free space to run the software smooth. The computer mainly slows down because of the other programs running in the background. My advice is to get a nice second harddrive (may be 40 gig is good enough)

Install windows in it and run just the recording stuff in it, your computer will do processing in amazing speed.

here i go messing up the flow...jus another 123mb stick should be ok actually i recorded a cd with over dubbing vocals on 6 tracks and i did ok...so i say 256mb should cover it

if you are running Windows 98 or lesser, that is more than enuff machine for what you want to do.......

if you are gonna run alot of tracks and the hard drive isnt 7200rpm, that would be a good upgrade (about $50).......

if you are running anything newer than Windows 98, boost the ram up another 256mb...should be pretty cheap......

with 700mhz, you should be able to run a few dx/vst type plugins if needed, but dont expect alot.......

thanks for the tips guys. From what I hear I should do ok with what I have. Im not gonna be using like 4 mics to record on 4 seperate channels anytime soon, so with just doing vocals hopefully I will be able to manage, if not I guess I will bump up the memory to 256MB.

Using a 700mhz machine will be good for you! It forces you to use your resources wisely. :D
