Computer shopping

New member
Now that I have a good idea what I need ("Computer specs" thread) where do you guys shop for computers at? There is not a good place in my town so I have been web shopping for one. I even thought about a refurb to cut costs. I don't want one of the big brands because they come with a lot of stuff I don't need in the DAW. I thought a little about building my own, but after taking the cover off my existing one, I don't know? Anyone have any good reliable, cheap places to look.
 
I would recommend building your own. It's really not that difficult, and I'm sure some of us here can guide you in the right direction. If you do decide to build, there's only one place you need to go, and that's New Egg.
 
Check at your church. If it is of any size there's bound to be someone there who is familiar with this process who would be willing to help you. Is there a college with a Computer Sciences Dept. in it in your town? There's likely to be ads all over for guys who build custom machines. Talk to them. If you feel comfortable with them buy your components and let them assemble it.
But, like Elevate said it's not that difficult to do it yourself. There's good help here, all sorts of articles on the web and books at the book store and even videos on doing it. A good thing about building it yourself is, you'll know it inside and out. If something happens to it you'll be way ahead of knowing what the problem is than if someone else builds it for you. Just be careful and study up before you take all those pieces you get from the UPS man and just start stickin' someplace.
I can second NewEgg. You can find cheaper prices on one thing or another other places but all in all from what I've seen they are very low on their prices. Plus (Big PLUS) They are reputable.
(Is NewEgg the old Egghead Sofware company reborn?)
 
oh my lord, this stuff on this webpage is cheaper then if i built it myself...why!!??

im definately buying this comp here this weekend instead of newegg! lol
