Computer Setup??

Help me with the best setup for cakewalk?
Cureently I just have : Computer>Mic>Cakewalk

For better clarity should it be:

Computer>Mixer>Mic>cakewalk?????

is it possible to make proffesional sounding music with what I have or do I need external hardware for better clarity?
