Computer Recording

Hi,

I'm new to home recording and I'm trying to find the most cost effective way to record my music. I'm trying to record solo piano, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. My question is: Is it possible to just buy a mixer and run the mixer into the line in on my computer and get descent stereo recordings?

I would appreciate any help. :)

yes but the only problem you'll have is that you'll need to hook up a mic :D It won't be the greatest quality, but if your just an amature in recording & not wanting to sound pro or anything, your answer is yes.

Your question I would say YES, you can get decent recordings made.
with ruff tools you'll proabbly have to work a lot of overtime and play with levels and mic positions.

if you have a computer, pc is obviously the most "cost effective".

THE CHEAPEST:
download some FREE KRISTAL AUDIO recording software for example.
I was just doing this too and it works pretty good.
Then I just plugged a Shure 48 mic, with 1/4" plug, into a Radio Shack adaptor, 1/4" to mini 1/8", and then into the my crap-stock audio card MIC INPUT.
Started hitting record and figuring the software out..and it wasn't bad at all.

And its not horribly ugly sounding either if you play with the mics and levels.
think "fun" and "not very great sounding but listenable". this is with minimal effort, but the potential is obvious.

I'm still asking questions myself, being a pc newbie so thats my 2 cents.
