I think that I have narrowed it down to recording on a PC basically because of cost and upgrade-ability of the PC. I think (help me if I am wrong) that what I need is a good audio interface module of some sort and a good entry level based software to be able the manipulate everything from there.

I have seen softare like Guitar Tracks that say that all you need is to plug into the mic input on your soundcard and you can start right from there, sounds to easy and cheezy. Sounds too simple.

It seems that CakeWalk is a good software of choice for many on this BBS and it is reasonably priced. Does anyone have a feel for the learning curve with this product? I am an experienced computer user, so the PC is not a problem. If you have other suggestions than CakeWalk, I'm listening.

Any good suggestions on a audio interface for my PC. My budget is around $300.00 for the interface.

I want to thank all those who give their advice and help. It really makes a big difference when you know that you're not wasting money on mistakes.

Was the $300 for audio interface only ? or along with other stuff (mixer/preamps, softwarez, mic, etc...) ? If so, then you'll need save more bucks to get the standard running well. Or let's hope for christmas wish...

James, Santa has been very good to me this year. Read the post, it was for the interface only. I am trying to not over spend for stuff I dont understand yet or may never use.

I have been looking at the Digidesign Focusrite Mbox USB interface module. Any thoughts on this interface, keep in mind that I will be trying to use a Laptop for my studio due to space limitations. Its a little more than most, but it looks as though that it will work good with a Laptop.

Thanks
