I'm at a delima with trying to record on my computer. After I hook everything up the computer still doesn't pick up the mic. The only way I can faintly hear a sound is to turn the input and output to max, then boost the gain +20dB to where it clips everytime you whisper on the mic. I've been trying to follow the tutorials, and now I'm at a lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are the specifics:

Mic.: Unidirectional Mic. (I'll soon be taking this back and picking up a Shure)

Preamp: ART Tube MP

Sound Card: Sound Blaster XtremeMusic

Equipment plugged in in the following order:

Mic. -> (XLR->1/4" Cable) -> PreAmp -> (XLR->1/4" Cable) -> (1/4"->1/8" Adapter) -> Sound Card (Mic./Line In Port)

Thanks again for any help.

are you connected to the line in or mic in of the sound card? you want it going to the line in.

Did you look in >both< the Windows sound control panel and SoundBlaster (ugh) controls and make sure the port you are trying to use is active and the level is up???

The Mic. In and Line In ports on the sound card are the same. I thought it strange, but that's how Creative has it set up. (View the attachment to see how they have it.)

Roger that, everything's up in both. It works fine when I plug in my gaming mic, but when I hook up the amp, nothing. I've tried it in both Line In and Microphone mode.

Could it possibly be a problem with the adapter? I don't know if I need a transformer or if a normal $3/$4 adapter will work.

the only thing I can think of is playing with the jack. you might have to half insert it since you're running a mono male into a stereo female. you should feel a click at half insertion. give that a go.

Hey, sorry about the late response. I pushed them all in though, no success.
