ok, basically all i want is a way of recording several tracks of audio simultaneously, i have a host of computer programs to use(Cubase, Acid, etc), but so far ive been limited to recording one track at a time. I would ideally like to be able to record 4 or more tracks at once, but i do have some...financial limitations :p

what kind of hardware would i need to be able to record 4 or more tracks at once?(preferably under $500)

any help is appreciated

im not sure if i was completely clear on what i wanted... :D

i would like to be able to record those tracks digitally....that is, id like to have each track be sent to a different track in cubase...

also...

my current computer specs

2.7 ghz cpu
512 ram
140 gigabyte harddrive
windows XP
neon lights ;)

You need a soundcard with multiple inputs, and mics and mic pres. The least expensive way is to get an inexpensive mixer with at least 4 mic pres, direct outs on each channel, and a sound card with enough inputs.

I'm not too hip on the soundcard aspect, but there are a bunch of Behringer mixers that will give you an OK front end and not break the bank.

What kind of instruments do you want to record? You only need mic pres if you're using mics. If these are keyboards we're talking about then you can plug them directly into your inputs.

Also, be aware that though the Delta 1010LT has preamps it doesn't supply phantom power. Keep that in mind if you're using condenser mics.
