hi all, when recording elec guit. the monitor cuases elec. noise is there any type of screen filters or anything to eliminate this what dose everyone else do.

There is two sollutions that completely solves the problems. Screen-filters aren't effective. :(

1) Turn of your monitor
2) Get a LCD monitor

You can try moving far away from the monitor too.

You may also find that you get less hum on a different pick-up selection, but that may not be the sound you want.

Single coil pickups seem to make more noise, monitor or not.

Maestro_dmc is correct, try turning and finding a "sweet spot" that's less noisey.

An LCD is the best,I have one,but they still give you a wee bit of noise.

I have two CRT monitors, sometimes my 15" interfers more than my 19", other times it's the other way around. I usually just turn one or the other off.

Last time I recorded guitar I had my mic'ed in another room and monitored through headphones in the other room. For this you have to make sure you have a long enough lead in to record.

I also find some lights (I used to have chandeliers near my computer) and some fluro's interfer as well.

Just a couple of thoughts,

Porter

I've found that any guitar hum practically disappears if I hold the guitar perpendicular to the monitor, even when in close proximity to the monitor. It's worst with the guitar parallel to the monitor.

I find this to, but in reality, I can't hold that still, and still play good, so I didn't mention it.;)

older monitors will dump out more radiowaves that newer ones too... I had an EGA monitor plugged into my linux box (simply because I had no other monitors) and set it next to my newer 17" monitor... the EGA monitors would actually significantly distort the image on the screen of the 17" because of all the interferience. I've hears reports that monitors can produce radio waves that will broadcast over a mile... nice to know we've grown up having these transmitters pointing at our heads :)
