Well, first off I'll say hello... just found this forum today. A bit of background - I haven't played in years (bass was my drug of choice), but some friends got the bug to bite me again and also introduced me to the wonderful world of home recording. So not knowing yet if I'll get fully back into this all, I'm wondering if I can by with what I have or without a large investment.
I basically want to (initially) mess with Cakewalk using prerecorded drum tracks, and add my bass lines to them. I'm sure my system is more than sufficient power-wise to handle this, my question are more regarding input.
First, I have an Audigy 2... I know, I know... I've read the forums... but I just want to see if I get into this whole thing before going nuts on equipment. So that leaves me with my second thing...
The pre-amp. It sounds like I want to go Bass --> PreAmp --> Soundcard Line-In correct? Now I have a Peavey Megabass head that has PreAmp outs. I'm not a wiring guy, will this work? Or will I blow stuff up? I know the sound guys used this port to go direct to mixing boards when I used to play years ago, going with that info I'm assuming I can go preamp out of the head into the line-in. Am I on track or completely off base here?
Please no Audigy bashing, I understand the downfalls and will upgrade if I get into this all, I just want to cheaply test the waters and see if my interest is sparked again.
Phew... deep breath
Thanks in advance,
Dave
