I have a PC with WIN 7 that I run Cubase 5 that is mostly used for Audio production but I also use the internet as well on the same computer. I hear people say that they will never use the same computer for internet and a DAW. Could someone explain the rational behind this?

Thanks

There is none if you are just a hobbyist recording your own shit. Now, if you were a pro and I were paying you to do my band I would be pissed to think that all my hard work could be lost because some douche got a virus watching p@rn and downloading warez.

1995 thinking.

You used to have to strip down a computer to get it to perform well enough to record.
(no wireless, no networking, etc.)

Now that we have >1Ghz processors and better OS's thats not neccesary,
but the old 'here is what you have to do' lists are still circulating....

I tend to agree with timobrien. However, if your PC isn't the latest, fastest, greatest, it doesn't hurt to unplug the modem while you're recording. Otherwise Windows, virus detection programs, etc, might be downloading the latest huge updates while you're trying to get that amazing memory hogging reverb going. If you have a modern PC & virus protection you're probably ok.

I surf the internet while I mix - does that make me a bad person?

No, it's all the kitty p0rn you look at while you're mixing...
