Compressors: Which is the best?

It isnt balanced, and it looks cheap. And theres not enough bells and whistles.

What about the DBX 1066? I like the way its laid out better. Haven't checked the price yet though.
 
The RNC at $175 is easily comparable to $1-2K compressors in terms of sound quality........ there are no other compressors in the under $1200 range that compare to it.......

And anyways, you don't buy gear for looks, you buy it for what it does for you......

I think it compares to an Empiracle Labs Distressor. Kind of like how canned sardines compare to cavier.

None under $1,200? I think the Behringer Composer Pro is awfully close. Maybe a hair less transparent if you slam it hard. But it has fully balanced ins and outs, noise gate, stereo linking, and a pretty usable peak limiter. You just gotta' roll the dice on the QC, as some of them will give you some cross-talk. :)

The Joemeek isn't as functional, but still compares well in terms of it's quality and how well it does what it does.

Tyler gets my vote for "Newbie/rookie of the Year." His posts are thoughtful, provoking, pivotal and of great pith and consequence. I'm going to go ditch all my dull-looking gear and buy only stuff that looks cool and has lots of bells and whistles. I don't like how Bruce treats this poor fellow. Thanks for all your help, Tyler.
 
I've bought my share of dull looking gear, and I'm not saying that irs cheap beacuse it looks boring. I'm saying it looks like its made out of all plastic and cheaply made. I can't believe that that thing is comparable to 1200 dollar compressors.

Sorry Chess... you're WAY off... a Behringer comp isn't even in the ballpark.......... maybe one of the early runs of Drawmer knock-offs they put out, but certainly not their current stock........

Making a comment like that -- tsk, tsk... have you actually used an RNC???!!! :eek:

Well you don't have to beleive me... but it's pretty hard to argue with the fact that Fletcher sells them.... just the fact that they're in his catalog at all is a significant indication of its calibre........

Maybe I'll just rent like 7 or 8 of 'em. Why should I believe Bruce, and not Chessrock, or vice versa.

My understanding is they changed very little after the lawsuit; in typical Behringer fashion, just replaced a few doohickeys with a different whatchamajigger. :) You could be right, though. I am not nearly mechanically ept enough to talk specifics about it (I'm not Tyler-recpro).
 
I think I'm gonna talk to Rip Rowan. He seems to know what he's doing. It's just unbelievably hard to get a hold of him.

I told ya.... you DON'T have to beleive me..... but you can beleive Mercenary....

(You have no idea who Fletcher is, eh? Well he's a pro engineer, but is also owns a pro audio retail shop -- strictly pro - if it's on his site, it's top-notch... period...!)

Well, I actually might try the RNC afterall. It's only 175, which means i can get it for 125, so what have i got to lose.
 
You'll have to prove that one to me.... where do you think you'll get it for that price? They don't carry it at your local GC and other places that specialize in pro-sumer stuff...........
