What would the good compression settings be for rock bass through a blue tube into an RNC into my four track. thanks a bunch.

My first question is why are you compressing the bass? Typically its compressed to control a bass player who lacks decent control of his instrument. (mee too) I never compress more than 3:1 in an extreme case, but typical less than 2:1, try fast attacks and slow releases, 20 to 30 ms, and 50 to 70ms respecfully. Try it, if it doesn't work, try something else and write it some where in case you forget how it sounds..

Peace,
Dennis

Actually, compression is used quite often on bass. Especially because bass provides the foundation for the music. Thus, it is sometimes preferable to reduce the transients to prevent the levels from bouncing around. Also, compressing the bass can add more punch in rock tunes.

Generally for bass, try starting with an attack of 10-40ms, a release of 50-200ms, and a ratio of 3:1-5:1. Adjust according to taste.
