Compressor Advice Wanted:

I recently bought a FMR "Really Nice Compressor" and was wondering the easiest way to test to see if it even works because it isn't looking promising. I'm extremely new to this recording thing and I just started using a mixing board (yeah I know) and I've tried testing it through the mixing board but I don't even think I have that hooked up right.:(
 
yup, read the quick start guide.

you can also dial the threshold as low as it goes, put the ratio as high as it goes, and make the attack and release as low as they go. that should squash the signal as much as possible. if you can't hear a difference when you hit the bypass button, then you probably have something hooked up wrong.
