i have an alesis compressor tryin to set it for bass, can someone give me an average setting for compression for bass?

For tracking try around a 3:1 ratio with maybe a max gain reduction of 4-5dB. Try a medium attack, and adjust the release so that it's just about all the way back up before the next note.
