compression in fl studio

hi..i am new here...i coming from croatia and i have 18
i start to use fl studio since march 2008..just 1 year left...
and i have 1 question with i have a much trouble and this is compressor

i wanna ask some1 to explaine me what means the attack,release,ratio and trashold...why i need to change this and for what use is ...
my engleish is very bad and if u can explaine this on so much easier wat i will be thanks...
