I defrag often however I'm not sure if I should use XP utility disk clean up to free up space. I do compress old files on my C: drive fairly often. Wisdom and advice? Thx.

Guide on it here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Nothing wrong at all with purging logs, temp files, etc.... those are good things.

I would NEVER EVER compress any files though.
Disk space is TOO cheap these days and any screw-up in compressing/decompressing files means they are GONE.
If you need more disk space, buy a bigger drive...
