Hey, all!

I wanted to share a composition I wrote for my Music Theory I class during my Freshman year of college! I'm a sophomore now, but I was thinking maybe I could get some advice or comments on this year-old recording! It's got a piano rock/orchestral feel to it. Thanks for your time! I really appreciate it:

Freshman? 1st year? Sophomore? 2nd year? College? Senior secondary, post secondary or tertiary?
Do you want comments on the mix so you can remix?

I was a first-semester Freshman when I wrote and recorded this. I was hoping to get some advice or constructive criticism on any aspect of it: the composition/mix/vocals/performance. I'd like to know what everyone thinks!

I like the composition as a whole...great Piano playing...

As for the song...I'm a Country & Christian Singer/Songwriter so Lyrics are really important to me in my Genres, so take my opinion with that in mind....I personally would rather the subject matter be different...People can relate, but how many? There are songs I LOVED in life cause I was in such a dark place at the time....I would LOVE this at that point in time....However, if not, I probably would just change the channel

Because the music is so excellent I'd rather have a song with more Universal Appeal than talking about a "Shadow Friend"......I think maybe a broader subject matter would get this where it needs to go....There is Angst in the Music so the song probably won't be positive, which is cool....

But...........if this were mine and I had sang it for a year or two like this, I'm guessing a total re-write would be tough...cause songs are birthed in a certain 'zone"

I wouldn't trip too hard though, with those Piano skills you turn your attention to writing SMASH BALLADS
