Just recording one of my old songs and my routine is to build from acoustics, looping drum beat, rhythm, bass, higher arpeggios, solos. I always get to a fairly full completed backing track before I even think of adding vocals. And it occurred to me, how much of the melody for this is in the chords and rhythm and how much is hidden in my head? Pretty sure that songwriters haven't exhausted all the potential melodies out there yet, but I'm sure we've used every chord structure there is, many times over.
So, as an interesting experiment, if you want, and if it inspires any lyrics or melodies, how about taking this backing track and adding your own lyrics and melodies, singing it, adding any other instruments, and uploading it here?
Not sure if this has been done here before, but it's something I would have leapt on if someone else put it forward.
Anyway, just an idea, no pressure, and I'll just leave it here...
