I read your responses and redid almost all the vocals to a point that sounds pretty decent to me. I also did some dramatic remixing including an almost acapella change in the song's climax.

Glad you liked the guitar sound. The majority of it is the result of picking straight over the sound hole...very warm. It also helped to play it twice then pan the two tracks wide open for the verses, and I tightened them for the larger passages.

Anyway, if ya got a minute, or 3:46...

man...this is much better, and I'm getting to like the vocals. You have a good character to them, which comes out much better now with them up louder. I like the insane drum break. Extremely tight dbl tracking on the gitters....yeah..you had me fooled.

I could have done without the female voice that came in the middle. You could have done the same...maybe panned off to the side...and done it yourself...me thinks.

I still really like this music. nice feel to it. yeah...this is a big improvement on my scorecard!!;) Now...if I could get some runs and get on the scoreboard, we'd have a game...but it looks like a shutout to me:)

Ok this does seem like an improvement, with vocals up more.
Very nice and clean recording IMHO, but the intonation of the remains off in some places.

Very nice music. Is the song about a ghost? :)
I was trying to make it out.

cheers

No critique, just a compliment. I like your style and sound textures alot. Your voice is very fitting for the flavour of your songs. I simply dig your stuff. Keep um coming.

peace,

Theron.

wow.. nice song.. really relaxing. (well.. at the beginning.. :p)

And great guitar sound...

:( *waaaaaaahhhh....* :(

why can't I get a guitar sound like that... :(

:p

In the hit at 2:28 it seemed like everything wasn't "there" all at the same time.. (or maybe you made it "late" on purpose). And I'm not into the "Indian" feel that some of your percussion/vocals have... but that's just taste... for the most part this is some groovy stuff. Definitely original.

Very nice! I echo mixmkr about the bizarre drum break. That's just too cool. The mix is much better than what you put up first. I though before that the part was too low for your voice but it was just the mix. Sounds fine now. BTW, I also listened to your other stuff while I was there. I like all of it especially The Passing. That's just awesome and Townie's great..........makes me want to play along. Good stuff. :)

BTW,

Sluice, is there some sort of newbie/low budget/low knowlege version or equivilant to the Triton? I need some texture and mood to complete alot of "audio visions" I have but, I'm just a live recording, guitar playing, drum loop using, non- midi and no synth knowlege fool right now.....You should hear what is in my head though (so should I;))

Any help?

Theron

This board has been acting weird lately...links not always working well for me.

I'm psyched. You guys always pushing the hell out of me to get better results. In fact, you're just about the only ones to ever hear this stuff, at least for now until I figure out what the hell I'm doing. I know I have a LOT to work on vocally. That has never been my forte. So hearing you guys helps me there too.
Actually if I could get a few of you to move to Maine...ahh dreaming.....

Mixmkr- there's definitely no scoreboard here...but one thing. Now I gotta tell my girlfriend why she can't be on my song anymore! PEER PRESSURE!

Fed- The song is about a great friend the passed about 3 weeks ago. He was also one of my favorite drummers (hence "Rhythms"), and the best I ever worked with. We were also roomates for a couple years between Maine and Florida.

Theron- thanks man!

WAYTF- Thanks for the comments. As for the "Indian" style, I can't help it...I gotta experiment. For one thing, my girlfriend is Native American and some of the music, especially at the pow-wows on her tribe's reservation in Montana, really strikes me!!!

Lt. Bob- Anything you'd have done differently?

Theron- Keys are also not really my forte...just started using them myself a few months ago. There cheaper routes to go, but the Triton is an excellent writing tool. Actually, if I get a little time between working my ass off in the sun, and recording my shit, I'lltry and add some layers to your stuff if you'd like to hear how it might sound....Just a thought.

Thanks guys!

Hey Sluice.....
...Great stuff. You have a "Sting meets Dave Mathews" ish flavor to your voice that I like a lot, and the harmonies are beautiful. I like the guitar part..... one question: where did you place the mic, .....just curious, it sounds like you might be just a touch to close to the soundhole (im thinking that might explain the inton. issue someone mentioned....a very slight howl in the lows) IMveryHO. That drum break is worth a million dollars, as is the "cricket" sounding perc. part....great with the reverb. I liked this song ALOT! .....i'll be putting this into my own personal rotation. Thanks, Mike:D

Well I'd have put some saxophone on it! :D

Seriously, I don't hear anything I don't like except there is a bit of "boominess" to the bottom end that muddies things up a bit. BUT...........be aware that I don't use my 'puter for recording so my speakers aren't really my reference system. So that might just be my speakers......I often run into that and I'll have to burn it to cd and go listen to it in my room before I'd know for sure.

dig it.. I was hoping you left the other version up because I didnt download it yesterday but I was going to today.. I wanted to compare the two.. I dont like the high hat. That's it... everything else is great..I like the girls voice.. I did that a few times but the girl was gone before I finished the tune so I usually wind up scrapping the whole tune....except 'unwell.' I originally had a girl I was hanging with's voice on there...after it soured I replaced her with samples from 'Shadow of the Vampire.'

Anyway, this is a great song, and the new version is a bit different, but I'm not 100% convinced it's better.. but the song is great no matter what..

I'll comment more later after I take a shower and get these nasty ass work clothes off..:D

Soo much better than the first. I like your voice a lot now that I can hear it clearly. And that guitar sound is VERY CLEAN.

No Mixmkr, they were in fact very bad. I didn't just turn them up, I completely redid the performance. I couldn't decide what voice tone to use on this one. It's such a gentle music, and I thought a breathy, lower voice would be fitting. But I completely botched it, so...an extra hour's time got me a bit closer to what I'm looking for.

Guerinica- No it's just bad singing, and not having a ton of time to correct it. Your point is valid though...

Sam, you are the funniest man from Long Island I ever met. I'm still learning writing for drums too. I never had to think that way playing in bands, because I've usually been fortunate to work with pretty solid drummers. I should have you do some drums for me sometime...you do a great job!

I think my new sound card should be arriving tomorrow, so hopefully I can cut some noise down and start recording the Triton parts in stereo, at least to see if gives a little more life to the stuff. I have to do quite a bit of EQ-ing to a lot of instruments to breathe some life into them. And I won't even touch midi instuments except drums. No fun that way anyhow. Afterall, we're musicians not machines.

Thanks you guys. Sorry for the ramble...

yeah...I realized you resang it....but didn't catch the dbl guitars the first time around...

also..I know there is no scoreboard...and to make that clear (because I know someone will jump my shit if I don't)..it was just a [kinda creative] way of saying your stuff sounds really good.

I know man. I've got a fairly good feel for your humor! If there was a "scoreboard" you wouldn't be helping me like you do.

I hope there isnt a scoreboard, because whenever there is, that is my prelude to failure..:)

hey SLuiCe, anytime you want to collaborate just drop me a p.m. You use some crazy drum beats though and I couldnt play a lot of it.. but if you have anything you want me to take a stab it, let me know..

I love this song..

you took out the girls voice! I liked it..

LOL Sam. The drum beats I come up with usually get replaced about a month later! For some reason they don't come to me as fast as the melodies. I never had to make up drum beats til I started doing this stuff this winter.

SO KEEP STRAIGHTENING MY ASS OUT! I'll learn! :-)

Actually, I've got a something new I'm starting this week, nothing too dramtic, more of a rhythm/blues/swing kinda ditty. Just got some gits and vox right now. Maybe I could send you those tracks (I'll play it with a metronome to be safe!) and then once the drums are there, I'll do the rest of the instrumentation... whatever that may be.

Also, the hi-hats on RYTHMS...I'm thinking toms....what do you think?
And as for the spoken word...I'm still experimenting. I think I just need to get her to relax with the mic, and say it with more feeling...kinda put herself in my shoes. She's usually pretty good at that anyway :-)

Thanks bro

sounds cool SLuiCe.. definitely do it to a metronome..

I dont think you should mess with this tune anymore.. I truly think it is great as is/was..:D

bust out some new stuff immediately!

I've noticed samicide signs his stuff this way quite a bit....did he die or something...or is it just this Ozzie thing?:D :D

Hey samicide...it's been 24 hours....no new tunes yet...ya slacker!!!

lol mix!:D

I have something almost done that I think might be too strange for anyone to dig at all.. I took a chance that probably didnt work out, but I'll be throwing it up here by the weekend anyway.. I used almost no effects at all on the vocals! :D
