Hi,
I've been recording a batch of songs over the past couple of months through a Tascam 488 MkII. My intention is to lay the final mixes from these sessions alongside mixes previously compiled in REAPER and Audacity to make up my first 'proper' album. As I'm producing music that sits firmly within the indie/lo-fi tradition (think early Belle and Sebastian, the Clientele etc.) my plan was to send a rough version of the complete release to some labels to see if they'd be willing to hand it on to a producer to polish it up a little and hopefully put it out (as Elliott Smith did with his debut, although I certainly don't delude myself into thinking my music is a patch on his). Otherwise, being unemployed, penniless and with no-one around to help me out, it might never see the light of day.
I regard myself as a songwriter first and foremost and - despite having taught myself how to record and mix to a competent level over the past few years - have spent long enough slaving away on the project that the final job of producing seems like a bridge too far. What I'm wondering is how I might go about compiling my final mixes into a full-length album, taking into account fade-ins/outs and levels, and burn it to a few CD-Rs for distribution. I'm currently using REAPER as my DAW - is this an adequate tool for the job in hand? The final article needn't be perfect, but just (I hope) good enough to show potential if a producer were to eventually get his hands on it for release.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice.
