Compatibility Question

Can I use a 3.5MM TRS male to male patch cable rather than the 3.5MM male to male patch cables that is probably unbalanced that
came with my Alesis Elevate 3 monitors (it has one ring not two like the TRS)? They are being used to connect the left and right speakers.

The speakers are not balanced, using a TRS (balanced) cable would serve no purpose. But, yes, you could use a TRS cable. The ground and shield will be connected in a TS connection.
