There were some bugs in the initial Tascams, but they do have a lot of features for the $$. Tascamforums, a great site for support, is now out of business, so support might be an issue.
I'd put Korg in the mix, because they're stuff is great and they have excellent tech support, and their manuals are usually well written...
Me? I use a Fostex VF160 -- a great buy and great machine. But it's feaure set won't be as wide as the others, and it's 16bit only. Still, it can do 16tracks at once recording with an ADAT interface, 8 at once out of the box. And it's really stable.
