here's one I was recently involved in...it's a cover of a tune by Mason Profit(sp?), a band I'd never heard of till doing this song.

the mixin was done by a bud of mine, I played the echo-ey slide and provided some backing vox near the end...would appreciate comments on the mix, tones, etc....

we're using wma cause we think it sounds truer to the original than mp3...anybody else finding this to be true? we've tried lame, blade and fraunhoffer..still like wma.

mason profit....man that goes back a good 30 years...Iowa State..in the gym...

the recording quality sounds half decent. There is something that strikes me strange...and I think it is the fact that the bass, drums, acoustic gtr, and vocals...are on one "plane"...then your slide is in another dimension....and also the riffing duel guitars...with all the echo and reverb...and the reverb is panned, and mono...(with the exception of the intro...which is how the whole song should be, imo) If these riffing instruments had a good STEREO verb and echo going, THRUOUT the song, I think it would tie the whole band together more.....like when the bg. vocs come in.. they're pretty echo-y...but panned wide to good effect.

boy..that is a monotone vocal line....but nice vocal quality the singer has..

i tried clicking the link afew times now and for some reason it keeps crashin my puter...can you post it any other way?

You're making me feel old (I have this album). I know what you mean mix, it needs a verb on the drums and acoustics to put them in the same room with the other guitars. Fantastic job on it though. I really enjoyed this one.

yup, I'll put up an mp3 version when I get home..preciate the comments guys...I can't take credit fer the mixin or the recordin (other than my little parts), he did all that...I think he's been holdin out on us ;)

See Hux, I toldja there was people out there hearda these guys lol!

*Did you ever hear the songs they play in Georgia?...*

I'm the guy that started this thing - and thanx everybody fer the comments. I'd left the acoustics (pretty much) dry on purpose, kept fightin' 'verbs all the way thru, so took 'em out as much as I thought I could and still achieve the atmosphere I was after. May hafta go back and try that stereo 'verb bit - truth, I never thought of it... (my machine was pretty close to maxed out on this, and I mighta been payin' more attention to that than other important stuff)

And yeah, it's a hard song to sing and get any *expression* into - took a LOT of takes 'fore I got a decent one!

Thanx again!

Bill
