Hi, this is my first post here!

I recently recorded a young band (14 year olds) playing a cover of "Killing In The Name" by Rage Against The Machine.

benfenner - Killing In The Name on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

It wasn't me playing and I know the performance isn't perfect, I'm more interested in the recording side of things! Would love anyone's comments, particuarly regarding Kick Drum level and Sub Bass frequencies levels.

Equipment:

Drums - Cheap Starter Set w/ Zildjain ZBT cymbals - Red5 Audio Drum mic set (with Behringer B1 condenser under the snare and Shure SM58 on the snare top).
Guitar - Ibanez (not sure of model) recorded through a Line 6 Pod X3.
Bass - Ibanez (not sure of model) recorded through the Line 6 Pod X3.
Vocals - Behringer B1 Condenser

Recorded into M-Audio Fast track 8R and mixed in Sonar Studio 7.

Hmmm... not too bad. There is definitely too much compression on the whole mix. It's pumping. The snare needs more crack. Bring the top mic up more. I also don't recommend reverb on the bass. Few tweaks, it should sound pretty dern good.

hey thanks for your reply, ill make those changes. With regard to the reverb on the bass, that was automated just to be on the solo bass part at the start, it seemed to lack depth without it, for the rest of the song the bass is completely dry!
