I'll be using the version of logic that comes with the omni studio and ill get Logic Gold v5 soon. Now i need a computer and i was looking for comments/ suggestion on the computer im planning on getting.

Also can i hho kup my stereo up via the SPDIF on the omni soundcard and what cable will i needd

Do you guys think an extra 256 MB ram would make a huge difference.
Im going to be using this setup to help develope songs, record a demo and after a bit more money use it to record part of an album for my band.
Any idea how many tracks i could get out of this setup?
Can i hook up my stereo to SPDIF??

Looks OK but I would urge you not to get the Intel 845 but the 850 board (not sure about the number) and RDRAM.

You'll face an escalation in cost, but the extra bandwidth offered by RAMBUS will be IMHO worth it. Specially when doing intensive audio processing, the SDRAM will be a huge bottleneck in the CPU's performance.

Or you should consider getting the P3 for audio, if you want to stay with SDRAM. I still think the P3 coppermine is a far superior processor to the P4 (subjective opinion only).

Once you pick up the system, get the Live!ware 3.0 off of the Creative site.

The setup seems fine, otherwise. upto 20 tracks shouldn't be a problem, but I'm not so sure about the kind, quantity and complexity of the effects you'll be able to use with the mobo. I've seen the 845 chipsets perform, and its a little sad. For a more focused point of view, read through the articles/reviews here: www.tomshardware.com

You can hook up the s/pdif to your stereo (I assume you mean home stereo). You'll need an s/pdif cable (commonly available, I guess) or in a pinch, use good quality video cable. *Don't use ordinary audio cable. It will degrade the signal quality*.

256 MB of RAM looks OK, I get by fine with it, but another 256 wouldn't hurt. It'll help you work without using virtual memory, which is a good thing.

RAM is cheap, I would get 512. That would be overkill with Win 98 or Millenium, but a good thing with 2000 or XP, which if you don't have now you probably will eventually.

I am getting XP ( i mentioned that in my first post). Anyone had any problems with XP and Logic (i'll be getting version 5 and that should have drivers for XP) and/or the Delta Omni studio?
How much of a difference with RDRAM make? I'll probably end up getting it but i'd like to know how much of an advantage it will be. Anyone got any bechmarking tesrs on SDRAM and RDRAM?

There's a huge bandwidth difference between RDRAM and SDRAM. Look at www.tomshardware.com. They've got all the benchmarks. Look for the review of the 845 chipset when it was launched. It's been benchmarked against RDRAM and the Athlon with SDR/DDR
