Comercial to Home volume levels.

When I record with my band at my house, my mixes tend to be really quiet. I always hit 0 db on the meters, but it is never as loud as a normal CD or MP3. I have Cool Edit Pro 2, with a behringer mixer and some good mics (SM57/58, drum mics). Any input you guys could give me would be great.

You need to read up on compression and mastering! :)


(And by the way, if you have the money, send the mix to a mastering-studio for best results...)

compression and/or hard limiting is probably what you are looking for...you will see the pitfalls and the possibilities of using this..but if you play punk music i don't think your heart will be broken by the losses :).

I don't really play punk, I dunno why I got this screen name. If so, can't a punk even want quality?
