I've had enough. I can't take it no more. This one's going up.

I'd've done So Long if the Kinks hadn't done it already.

I probably have no business commenting on this since I always try to push heavy rock sensibilities on songs regardless of their genre, but I have no business doing a lot of what I do, so why should this be any different, eh?

The mix, as good as I can tell from my speakers, sounds good. The "woofy" kick drum, which I assume is artificial, needs more attack and less woof. Though that kind of kick might make it sound like you are going to break out the electric guitar at some point in the song, and I understand you only break out the Telecaster on Boxing Day.

The playing and singing is quite good. This sounds like a D-bro song.

I thought it sounded real good. The vocal and acoustic guitar sound excellent.

I didn't care for the Atari-video-game-keyboard sound. But that might be something that grows on me after a while.

I think you could probably turn down the vocal and the kick drum just a bit. Vocal is super dry. Maybe too dry. For me, that's saying something.

I'd double/triple/quad that vocal on the left going "ooohhh". Caught some pitchiness in it.

Or you could leave everything alone and it'd be fine. Just my random thoughts.

I liked it. Thought the acoustic sounded good. I thought the"atari-video" keyboard sounded low fi but fit the tune well. The only suggestion I would make is that the backup vocals have pitch issues and should be retracked.
Nice job dobro

Okay, you guys helped a lot. None of you mentioned the thing I was most worried about, and you all mentioned other stuff. Good. The deception worked. I'll mix it next, thanks.

I'd lower the kick and 'atari video' sounds a bit in volume. The pitchiness in the 'ohhhh' could be easily fixed with ReaTune, it's only in a couple of places. Some reverb or delay on the lead vocal would be good.

What was it?

I'm not too bothered by the woofy kick. Every kick nowadays is a 70hz transient. Let's let this one be different.

There's a bit of noise at the beginning. Your a little more Tm Rapp this time.
That's cool though.
I like it.
Is that a lady doing the bvox?

Dobro - I thought it was you BUT felt they had a nice fem tone - yes, successful deception.

Cool slab of quirk dobro, but the mix levels seem a bit off to me. I think the left panned synth is a touch loud and the scatting yeah's are a bit quiet. Agree with trip that the vocals would benefit from a little more reverb, as they are super dry and up front (and possibly more on that synth too).

It isn't a mix at this point; it's an arrangement of raw tracks. I wanted to see what drew attention, and it wasn't the thing I was most worried about. Duh. Now I've got to decide what to do, if anything, about the things that people DID notice.

Thanks for the listen, Robgreen. Tune in again when it's actually a mix - I'd be interested to hear what you hear.

Some guesses...

1. Audible hiss at the beginning.
2. No bass. Low end is only the kick.
3. Is that a stereo kick? Doesn't sound quite mono.
4. Percussion is only a kick - no snare, cymbals, etc.
5. Something else about the kick.
6. Or something else about the kick.

No, it's the violin sound. It's something I came up with in Garritan Personal Orchestra. I don't like it much, but with the other stuff going on, it didn't draw attention.

Yeah, the kick's a bit woofy. I can change it out for something else, tweak it in drumagog and lay some voodoo in. The downside of not having a band is having to use sampled stuff. The voice, guitar and synth are real, though. Yay.

I don't have any crits really. I like the unusual-ness of it. The beeping sound got a little annoying after awhile but I really like it has a whole. Good job.
