hi,

does anyone have any suggestions for how or what to use to dye / colour / paint acoustic foam..?

i have a large quantity of foam im wanting to use, which used to be grey, but due to being in storage for a while, its gone a murky green colour.

any help would be appreciated.. thanks.

You may want to contact the company that made it to see what they think. Just not sure if dye would break down the foam or not and you DO NOT want to paint it.

Wish I could be of more help.

Gone a murky green color???

Uh, that might be MOLD... and I certainly would NOT want that introduced into my house (even dyed or covered) to cause massive health problems down the line.

Buy some new foam!

I don't know what will happen, but you could TRY to hand wash a small piece (1x1) in some diluted dish soap and see if it will clean up, but you might want to do it on a hot day so it can air dry outside. Where/how was it stored?
If not mold, then grey to a yellowish or green sounds like maybe ciggerette smoke or exposure to sunlight.

:)

im DEFINATELY not gonna try to paint it , haha :p

it has been stored away in a dark cupboard, so mould may be a possibility...

i think i'll end up just buying some new foam.. just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for salvaging it.

thanks for the input!

Good advice given regarding mold...first determine if it's got a growth happening after that and if it's safe, have you considered wrapping it in a sound transparent fabric of some kind? Might take a little craftsmanship but it's an idea right?
