college classes and some other questions!

hello!
i just graduated highschool, and am looking into colleges to major in recording.
for the past two years ive been working with analog equipment i keep gatering.
i am looking into umass lowell for the sound recording technology major.SRT and i was wondering what advice everyone could give me.

another thing i would love advice on, is where to spend my money
on mics, monitors, mixingboards, recording devices or programs or hardware, whatever.

i have two reel-to-reels
one is not professional at all but i wonder if the other would be of any use ever.
i began to comapre it to other and it doesnt really seem like it would.

theres what it looks like. quarter inch tape, but i dont think anyone uses that anymore.

If this is truely what you want to do Then go for it. I looked at the link that you put in your post and it looks dam impressive. Looks like we could be asking you for recording advice once you are done with that course. All of us dinosaurs need help from time to time.

A little advice - Grain o' salt, okay?

I think it's great that you want to hit school for audio, but think about getting into something that can carry you into a studio.

Electronics - That's a big one there. Two guys - Both get good sounds out of the Neve - One of them can take apart, clean and reassemble the Neve. Which one will get the job... Hmmm...

Acoustical Engineering - If you're good, the doors will fly open. Offices, stores, warehouses, clubs, high-end home theatre setups - The possibilities...

Don't ignore the audio, but a little "specialty" will set you above others.

Just a thought - YMMV, IMHO, etc., etc...
