collaboration with Lt. Bob!

Ok, I just listened again so here's what I hear in this mix.

I'd like to hear what it would sound like with:

1. Bump up the eq around 2k-2.5k somewhere in there to give the sax a bit more edge.

2. I'm curious what it would sound like with a bit more distortion on the sax, not a ton but a little bit.

3. Also if you have a doubleing effect of some sort to make the sax a bit fatter.

4. I like the guitar cranked up for its' lead section.

Now, I wonder if you would be willing to mail me a CD of this. If you would, I would want the sax deleted at about 1:32 when the ride section starts and keep it off 'till about 2:05..when the basic line comes back in. That would allow me to play a sax ride of a much more metal nature now that I've heard what you've done with it. I could record a few rides, then mail you back a dozen or so mixes of it. That way we would avoid the extreme conversion problems we ran into before. I want the sax lines left on just remove the lead. I can definately play something that would complement the guitar a lot better.

Also did you use the click track? Just wondering. If you don't need it, it would affect how I would send you things in the future. If you used it, then the way we did it this time would be the way to go. If you didn't then I might send you two saxes together for harmonies or .... who knows?

Lastly, I might take that sax line, (I still have it) and add a section to it, playing the exact same thing but bigger. If I do that, I'd be interested to see if you have some ideas for a vocal line or do you like it as an instrumental?

Ok, that's enough for now. Hey everybody, lets figure out how to do this collaboration thing. All ideas welcomed. It's not as simple as it might seem when everyone's got different systems that use different protocols. And this song's not finished 'till everyone says it is. So join in, lets make this a communal project. :)

See what you've done to Lt. Bob, Sabbath?
Now he THINKS he's Dimebag Darrell.

Next thing you know, Lt. Bob will have big hair.

Thanks, you dick.

:D

farah fawcett wig?

gilda radner?

a 'fro...complete with afro-sheen...?

Cousin It....?

Sasquatch....?

can you have big hair and still carry rank??

Look at that "Big Haired Sax Player" they'll say secretly hoping that one day they too might have......"BIG HAIR" :D :D :D :p :D :D:D

you know what they say about "Big Hair".

Nice colab. Got my ears ringing and the ideas spinning.

Now I know what plumbers do between jobs. I'm in the wrong business.

I really have nothing to add other than.........WOW!

Very cool...very classy! Great idea and a wonderful effort on both your parts. I'm in disbekief at the coolness of this project.

Did Bob lay it down to a click or something or did Sabbth just have to feel his way through? Did Bob email it to Sabbath? Mail it? How did this come together?!

How about copying the sax track and fucking it up real good and then adding it in in bits just under the surface of the original.....ya know....in the bigger parts.

Sabbath you are wacky and its great!!!!!:D

Thanks for the listen heylow, I recorded the sax to a click track; put the sax on the right channel and the click on the left then posted it at nowhereradio late one night. Sabbath took it and once he had played drums, deleted the click. I had no idea what he was gonna do with it but I think he did a great job. Very creative. My part was easy. I just told myself, "Feel the Sabbath Luke,...BE the Sabbath" :D

I agree that the sax is too "acoustic" sounding.
Maybe some crispy high level, or the other way around.
An acoustic comp with drums, guitar, piano, bass...
More in a jazz trad, don´t hate me ;)

Great work!

[BI love the stereo effect on the Lt.'s sax. What is it?

I took the original sax line and ran it through a Pod Pro adding reverb, bit of distortion, minor delay, and some chorus....... and then back to a different track.. Now I had 2 tracks, one wet, and the original... I added reverb and a hint of chorus, and a small amount of compression to the dry one....those effects came straight from my recorder..(Tascam 788 portastudio.) The most important part was the clean recording Lt. Bob sent me, that was the hardest part I'm sure, I just added some effects and panned both tracks almost fully....

Guernica - thanks dude! hopefully this is just the start of many collaborations to take place here..:D

mixmkr - pip-squeak?? :D What do you mean by "crazy delay echo's on the solos now?" Please share some of your insight...........numbnuts! :D

VI :D - your killing me with the 'Dimebag' stuff!:D Man, he is one of my heros for sure! I agree that Lt. Bob kicks some tail on the sax, but my guitar playing is all smoke and mirrors..:D Hand me a clean sound with no effects, and you'll hear the true definition of a hack! I hope the collaboration idea catches on.... I can destroy others music as well! thanks VI! :D I have another of the Lt.'s sax lines that I'm working on....this one will not be metal....it will have more of a spacey gothic vibe to it.. :D

Theron - I'm in the wrong business too! :D thanks for checkin' it out! I got your P.M. and I'll write you back shortly....it sounds like a great idea!

heylow - thanks! The Lt. basically summed it up, but the greatest part about it was when we were talking about it, he asked what type of sax lines to send, I said play anything you want, no matter what it is, and I'll write something around it... this way we each had what we wanted for our parts without compromise...that truly made it fun for me because there were no guidelines or restrictions.... The other sax line I'm working on with him will not be metal..........................probably! :D We both would like to collaborate more, and also with anyone else who is interested in this type of thing... thanks again dude!

maxc - I hate you!! :D (just kidding) I had no idea what to do with a saxophone so I just winged it! I have another one of his sax lines that I might do in a more traditional sense............maybe.;) thanks for checkin' it out, I guess I still have more to do on it...

LT. Bob

hey Lt.,

I read your suggestions but haven't had the chance to apply them... I just want to say this though, I really like it the way it is, (as far as performance.) I think there was a spontaniousness (?) about it that I really enjoy..... I could send you anything you want in the mail, and you can do whatever you like, but if it were up to me, I would like to get this mixed as best as possible and move on....... Whenever I spend longer mixing something than recording it, I take that as a sign to move on to the next one...... I am already thinking of the next one! It will be much different than this.....probably no metal!

Thanks once again for doing this Lt., I truly enjoyed it.... Let me know what you think..:D  I will play with the sound more..

Granted and I get your point. I don't want to mess with the spontaneousness of it, I just want to put a proper sax ride on it to finish it off. When you get it down to a final mix, I'd like to take that and simply add a sax ride over that ride section. No change whatsoever besides the ride. Please, pleaseplease!!!! :D

And seriously, it seems to me that if we're gonna figure out this collaboration thing, part of it would be to find a way to go back and forth just a little bit for pieces of music that might require that. Just a thought. ;)

I don't know...a metal ballad might be pretty cool! :)

Thanks B. for doing this with me. This is big fun! :)

nice fuckin job doodley. That's the shit that I'm talkin about! This cut stands out ahead of the rest in a way like no other turkeys would gobble to profess. I must say mister b-sab you have outdone yourself here. And hats off to thye lieutenant! That's some sax and violence to be reckoned with! Four stars from the rats!!!

rats - coming from you, that's a big one! :D I'm sure you would have had no problem saying you didn't like it... thanks man, I agree with the 'hats off to the Lt.!'

Lt. Bob - whatever you would like to do is cool by me! I'm already starting to get side tracked though... I will try to focus on this a bit more....it's not easy because once I start something new, (like I have already), it's hard to work on other stuff.... I have trouble sticking with one thing for too long..:D I'll get back to it soon though... I'll keep you posted! later bro!

Props to leutenant bob and sabbath! You guys did something very cool. I like this a heck of a lot more then your safety dance cover. Never heard shit like this before! Keep it going.I been listening to all your songs sabbath, this is another good one.. I like the guitar. I listen to a lot of stuff but usually dont comment, this was too good not to.

props to both of you! Thats some crazy sax shit!

your a fucked up dude sabbath. thats probably why I like your songs. Every week you got something it seems like.

Saxophone on a heavy metal song. now I heard everything.

great job by both of yous.

thanks Satch, hopefully other people are into collaborating as well, it was a lot of fun to do. I'm glad Lt.Bob suggested it.

'props to you Lt.!' :D

Excellent extension to a nice sax line.

My only complaint, mix wise was a somewhat shrill component- maybe the "wet" sax or some POD screaming that took away from the crispness of the idea that grabs you right away. I'd suggest thinking out each repeat of the theme and come up with palettes of different sounds that contrast each other like the colors in a color scheme on a Wintel Machine.

Thanks Sabbath....the same back atcha.

Thanks for the listen Satch and Rats. We appreciate the loan of your ears. We didn't have a clue as to what we were doing, that's what made it so much fun. It really doesn't sound like anything I've ever done before and that's because it was done with someone I don't know. I'm hopeful this might get everyone thinking about collaborations. There's a lot of talented people at this BBS and I'd like to work with them all!...... Hey! I'm available! :D

drstawl - your absolutely right about the sound, I did something different with the guitar sound and it didn't work as well.. I have no idea what a 'Wintel Machine' is, but I think I understand what your saying. :D Lt. Bob and I had hoped this might lead to other collaborations.. thanks for checkin' it out.
