greetings dudes,

Lt. Bob plays a mean sax... We came up with the idea to collaborate hoping it might catch on..:D

He made an mp3 with the saxophone on one side, and a metronome on the other.. I downloaded it from nowhere radio and dumped the metronome and made this..

I did not cut, copy, paste, or use any midi......and it probably shows..... I played the drums on an electric kit....

I did not change or alter Lt. Bob's performance at all... I just added some effect..... he wrote the initial song.. I just added other sounds to his sax! :D I did my part all in one day.....it took be about 15 hours in all.. from drums to mix....this is the first mix....any suggestions?

As of me typing this now, he hasn't even heard it yet!!

I will find out what he thinks at the same time everyone else does......

whatcha think???? did I ruin these beautiful sax lines? :D

damn, I love listining to your shit.....everytime you post I gotta hear! This definantly an interesting concept (never thought of trying a sax surrounded by metl/distortion/and rock drums)...LOL, kinda cool to hear.
My first thought is that the drums are just a bit too up front and my second thought is that the sax doesn't really "meld" into everything around it. On one hand you have the sax which sounds great by itself, then everything else is so full and compressed.....I would look for a couple different eq treatments on the sax, to bring it more into the "lead guitar" space that the rest of the music traditionally leaves space for.
Keep us posted on the progression of this, very diverse and interesting!

I just now heard it...

I really like it Sabbath. I think I agree with painter, that the sax is too "acoustic" sounding. I'd like to see it electrified a bit. You know if we were close...what I hear is a bank of a lot of horns playing that line. In leu of that, you could electric up the sax some. Use a doubleling echo and maybe even a little distortion....hmmm... yeah! take a little distortion on the sax and add it to the clean sound. I'd like to hear that. Make it mesh with the guitars a little more. I have played sax against a three piece with the guitarist through a stack so I'm open to heavy sax. Good job man, this is fun! :D :D :D :D

hey Lt.,

I originally did run the sax through distortion, but I didn't think you wanted me to mess with the natural sound of the sax too much... I was trying to keep the sax sound true BUT, I will change it and add more effects.:D I will try to put up a new one tomorrow... Glad you thought it was half way decent, I'll try to fix it up.. I'll email you with the update! :D

signpainter - I hear ya, thanks for the feedback! I'm going to try and fix it.... I'll check out your tunes in a little while and post on your thread..

I appreciate the concern about my sax lines and you did preserve the sax sound but anything goes as far as I'm concerned;... so do that voodoo.... that you do...so well! :D :D :D

Seriously, this has been a cool thing and I'd like to see more collaborations with more people,, maybe even groups of people. I don't know about anyone else but I have always "fed" off of others' ideas and hearing what you did with this just has my mind racing. The possibilities boggle my mind. My wife and I were just-a-grinning while we were listening to it, not only because the song is cool, but also because of how you did this. And it's so different than what I would have done with it.

Did you use the click track? If you did that's fine but if you didn't then that would leave open the possibility of sending two tracks to you. On this last tune I could put a horn section on one side playing the line, and then put a sax ride or even a guitar ride on the other then you could mix them to taste.

What kind of recording gear do you use? Is it all computer or do you use a recording unit. I have a Fostex HD-1624 with a Mackie 1604VLZ mixer. Many questions!!! (takes a deep breath) Whew! Ok calm down, Take it easy,,,,..........

Metal sax tunes. It's the way of the new millennium. That is so cool it hurts my head. Just put some verb on the sax and it's done.

thanks Track , I have no idea what I'm doin' over here.. I was afraid I would ruin the sax, but I messed around a bit more...

I just put a new mix on Nowhere and hopefully the saxophone blends better..

Hey B., Your killin me with this metal sax! LOL, I love it.....it's fitting in much better now. Great job. I can see it now:

Interviewer:
"And Mr. B., what were you trying to say with the metal sax"?

B. "Well, we were looking for that dark archangel from the bowels kind of feel, yet maintain our position on woodwinds in metal as a valid format"

LOL........

Viva la Metal sax!

Once again I agree with Painter, the sax blends MUCH better. Maybe it could use just a tad more distortion, to give it a little more "edge". Not much, I don't think just a little bit. Also I liked the way you brought the guitar up in the middle part. The wailing guitar against the sax works. Keep that.

Hey guys, don't let Sabbath fool ya', this isn't "all Lt. Bob". Shoot, all I did was lay down a sax line then he put this astounding metal shell around it. Pretty cool man. Now I've got to get a Marshall rig to play my sax through. :D

signpainter, thanks for checkin' it out again! Your exactly right about how it went down!:D Viva la metal Sax!!

Lt. Bob, I'll remix it again and email you! :D I'll keep remixing it until you are satisfied with the results..

This is too cool.

And this is one of the funniest yet coolest blending of styles I have heard since slam gospel.

I will be playing this one for a long time.

Lt. plays a nasty sax, and Sabbath rips the guitar apart.

I am laughing as I am bobbing my head.

Lt. Bob- You are now the "Dimebag Darrell" of the sax.

Thanks for posting this, guys!

:D

Thanks. I just spit pepsi through my nose all over the monitor.

Sorry, buddy...

But if they are NS-10's, no damage done.

Sabbath -

I love the stereo effect on the Lt.'s sax. What is it?

OUT FARKIN STANDING!!!!!
Major props to B.Sabbath and and the Leutenant for a great piece of work. I hope I start seeing alot more collaborating like this in here. This is definitely COOL! Keep it up fellas!!!
Mike:D :D :D

B. I don't think the sax is too low except maybe in the middle where I start addlibbing a bit and going up to the higher registers. Other than that I think it's mixed about right. Did you distort it up a little bit? I haven't had a chance to listen since I suggested that so I don't know. I'll be back in about an hour and I'll check out your latest mix. :D :D

nice job sabb... I'd like to hear lt bob redo his sax now, and kick some serious booty with his soloing, now that he has an idea of what an incredible job you did. You came up with some interesting ideas and sounds. you're one little creative pip-sqeak from the east...;)

I do hear a sax section in places now...and some crazy delay echos on the solos now too....

great job guys...
