I see deaf people
struggled with this a lot as its just out of my comfort zone...I can guess where folks are going to pick up on things but Im trying to get a particular sound and struggling a bit, Id just love more ears on it...hopefully this is the start of a new project for the two of us, we have a couple more baking in the oven

I did the music production side of things, Tom did the vocals/lyrics side of things

Infected

A simple laying of hand
A single blink of the eye
A life turned upside down

A simple fervent belief
A single harmless lie
And the conspiracy
Comes to light

Contain the virus

The fall of every man
The failed alibi
Matters of faith
And flesh collide

When playing games of chance
With someone else's life
The stakes
They never get too high

Contain the virus

Holy shit dude, that has the 80's club scene all over it. Very nice. I like it. False ending is cool.

I think it sounds good. One thing I hear is that it seems to be off time in spots - particularly in the beginning. It's like from :22-:40 the bass and drums don't really gel to me. The guitars don't do much for me. I get what you're going for there, and they're close, but they're a little harsh. other than that it's really cool. Can't wear to hear more from you weirdos.

cheers Greg...Ill have a listen to the drums and bass and see if I can hear what youre saying, Im not the tightest player buts its pretty simple (has to be ;) )...the guitars are tough for me...on their own they sound exactly like I want them too, but in the mix they sound different, if you were to do something to these what would you suggest Greg? cut back the HFs? I dont want to really retrack as I had 9 tracks of guitars and still cant quite get it

thanks for listening bro...I think working with Okie should produce some fun stuff, but itll be a learning curve for me if I have to struggle with guitars so much everytime

I don't know if cutting back the HF is the answer, but if it's 9 tracks of guitars (which is insane lol), I don't think it would hurt to group them all to one EQ and threat them as one unit of guitars. Also, if this is a bunch of sim guitars, then you might have a bunch of frequency stack up happening in the 2500-5000 range. Sims love to get nasty in that range. At least all the one's I've messed with do. This is probably one of those often talked about cases in which tracking with less gain is the answer. Is this a sim or your new amp?

I don't know how you want to hear them, but if they sound good on etheir own, but not in the mix, then you gotta just use them old ears and identify what's bugging you. I do believe this though: guitars are one thing you really wanna EQ as the mix plays. If you have a good track, little EQ adjustments in the lows and mids of a distorted guitar track can really make em pop in my experience. I bet tiny little notches in the high mids will kill the harshness.

Ok greg thanks for the advice...this is sims, amp, and my zoom....I know theres something wrong as each time they come in I wince. I was thinking of notching some of the mid highs on my way back from the gym just now, and youve confirmed it..

I think I know what the timing thing is, at the beginning I have and extra double kick, Im used to it so it doesnt sound odd but now youve mentioned it I can hear it

thanks again mate

No prob holmes.

Also, is this your Tele? Teles can naturally be brittle for high gain stuff. Forget sending your kids to college or paying bills, get a humbucker guitar for stuff like this. :D

bugger it, its the tele....I have humbuckers on the de armonde...maybe Ill tune the fucker :)

Keith. I just listened to this track, I gotta say the vocals are outstanding. I've never heard vocals delivered so professionally before. The rest of the track is fairly boring and generic, but that singer really makes this horrible train wreck of a song work!

I think you may be right Tim :)

I like how the guitars sound when they come in with the last chorus. That's a pretty sweet explosion on sound there. The drop right before that is pretty cool.

The rest of the choruses felt a little thin though.

So wait, is the song about the Illuminati or disease? Both?

Yes. :D

Hey Steve, thanks for checking it out..I think the reason it comes in better at the end is because I automated the master volume by a ball hair...theres also a tiny bit of lead in there...

Im fiddling around with them but it might just be a case of re-tracking the chorus with humbuckers...gonna leave it for a while and come back to it with fresher ears

You guys didn't rip this from some Peter Murphy cd somewhere, did you??

Sounds great to me. Used to love this kind of stuff back in the 90's when it was already old!!!

I think the snare could use the ever popular 80's gated reverb with long tails. During the breakdown, it falls out time, purposely I think, but I'd much rather it stay with the beat. Maybe that's my OCD talking, though. Or amI just getting tricked up by clever use of syncopation.

There are some pitch excursions on the vox. Seems to be at his low end of the range. But tbh, it's really low and no one can be faulted for not hitting it perfectly.

Really good collab, guys. Enjoyed it immensely. :D

Oh, and what does "PKE" stand for? (Not sure I want to know... )

Hey Chili, thanks for listening to it and taking time to comment

Im not sure about the snare going off beat, this was using and r70 drum machine for the main beat, and to be honest there isnt much variation..there are three snares and a clap and they come in at slightly different times so i reckon during the breakdown one is just becomeing more apparent...ill see if i can hear what your hearing, i spotted gregs timing comment pretty easily...good ears mate

I was tempted to go for the eighties snare but this is based around an 808, but i have a superb eighties kit with abbey road drums, with roto toms et al..so i'll maybe give that a shot on the next track...ill try not to go full collins, you should never go full collins! :D

Toms vox are the biz for his kind of material..i hear pete murphy too...i could do a little melodyne correction but tbh i like little wobbles...he has the tone i hear in my head when I sing...it just never sounds like it when i hear the recording lol

No telling you what PKE means though...its the geezer in the photo...and we're the "Experience" ;)

So I hovered over the image and Kurten pops up. Googled him.... sorry I did. :laughings:
