Collab with Michael McDonald and Kate Bush

I just looked up Michael McDonald on youtube. Lol. Oh sweet dear 8 lb 6 oz baby Jesus. My mom doesn't even listen to stuff that lame. Now on to Kate Bush....
 
I thought I knew who kate bush was, but seeing that photo...she doesn't look familiar at all.
 
Okay I remember Kate Bush. While I was there at youtube, I saw some Poison videos in the sidebar, so I switched to them, and that was bad, then that led me to Guns and Roses. I watched a few GnR vids, then I saw a vid of Slash w/ Lemmy and Dave Grohl. Cool. I watched that, it was awesome, and then bam, I look in the sidebar and there's a big pile of Ramones vids. I've come full circle.

Seriously I don't know how you fit so much weird shit in there and still have so much space in the mix. It's the type of thing you could listen to over and over again and keep noticing new details... Nice job!

thanks for listening mate, i try to keep it simple but interesting, its a bit of a juggling act, but I have no idea if it works until someone else hears it

Thanks Trip...Id say the kick is around 2db higher than it would be in a normal mix....it would be fine in a club but as this will be with vocal tunes Ill prolly have to tame it a little so it doesnt completely stand out

I think we've all grown up in our mixes...I mean theres still the same guys posting songs when I found this place, so I dont think anyones grown out of the place but rather grown up with the place


Ive got a few tracks coming up with a bass and guitar and Im trying to play the drums now, albeit on an alesis pad...so there will be plenty to nit pick, I spent 5 hours recording a bass thats making me wince today :D

Bit late to this one, but sounds great to me KC - I think it's one of your best in a while. I like Orbital and as you name checked them, that's probably at least part of why it chimed with me. I'm noticing yer style's evolved a little since the album.

I still got no idea who Michael McDonald is (or the Doobie Brothers are for that matter), but judging on the rest of the thread, I'm thinking ignorance might be bliss here...
 
Hey thanks Rob. Funny you said chimed...Chimes was the first Orbital 12" i bought...man what a fricken track, still stand today..

Yeah its i bit of a change from the album but to be honest i was a bit lost after finishing it, this is the kinda teack i was trying to make two years ago, but lacked the skills and equipment

Got some sisters of mercy style stuff coming, i kid you not..,and havent forgotten yours mate :D
 
I like the sounds your getting on this tune. Did you use the Little Phatty on it at all? I came this close to picking up a 2nd had Dave Smith Mopho, but I snoozed & loozed. Did you say you're getting vocals put on? This would be cool with a vocal
 
The moog is on the bass layerd with a prophet08 and a virus TI. I use it in every track but really just as a layer in the bass...it makes good leads im just not that great at lead stuff, i prefer sequencing.

No vox on this...theyre coming on two tracks ive got waiting to be mixed...thanks for listening bud, enjoying the crazy shit youre doing just now :)
 
you guys are killing me. i'm totally down with not liking the doobie brothers, but not even knowing who they are is funny as hell. i guess i am the only goofball on this thread who has actually COVERED a doobies song lol. Kate bush is AWESOME so not knowing who she is.... But I do know that if she ever posted here she would get clobbered for TOO MUCH VERB lol.

are we talking guitars?

at the moment im just approaching this like a sequenced track...the bass is just 8 bars all the way through and i like it, but my guitars?? well ive recorded 11 tracks of guitar so far and theyre all pretty crappy tone wise, but I guess if I want to play guitars Im going to have to keep at it

but i like your hints ;)
