mr. green christmas
Here is a (hopefullly) fun little casette production that i did in the garage a few weeks ago. The lyrics are from an email from a friend who was very happy with a remix of some material i did for him.

It is a little stunted rhythmically and not as bright sounding overall as i had hoped, but i like the basic guitar riff and enjoyed being able to sing (however briefly) about a character from the love boat.

We used up all of our "ubin" rhymes, so I repeat the few lines we had twice.

Clean up the intro a bit and you have something. All the amp noise and other things going on there almost made me stop the track. It sounded... how can I put this? Amateurish.

Your guitar tones are a bit harsh. Shave some off the top on the eq.

Cool song, lots of "ubin" rhymes.

Thaks for listening and for the advice Lurk...

I like those guitar tones, they're a little bit different. It's a nice funky kind of groove. I thought it meandered a bit in the middle section before the vocals came back again. I was was waiting for a breakdown with the drums & bass or something, just to break it up in anticipation of the riff starting again. Cool tune though, well put together

Its cool. Turn up the lead vox, I am struggling to hear the words.:)

bulls - "meandered" is putting it politely. Some sort of break is exactly what is needed. Too much noodling. I struggle with editing in the cassette realm. I have 8 tracks and record each one through in one take. I have a hard time with timing on drastic changes.

David - thanks for listening...apparently I need to spread more rep before I can hook you up...sorry.

i had to do a search to find some of your stuff as I wanted to check it out after your nice review of my song, and I must say-KILLER. I am a huge fan of early Beck stuff-and this is very much in that vein. Nothing about this song bothers me in the least. I especially like the whole lo-fi vibe, even though it sounds well rounded and nicely produced. I think the vocals sit perfectly in the mix, but that's my opinion...especially love the electric guitar work! Awesome. Is this cassette? It has alot of character to it. Has a certain feel to it that I like alot. Do you have plans to make an album. You should. This sounds like the stuff I used to get stoned too, and I really enjoy the stuff I used to get stoned to, so take that as a compliment.:D

k...just answered my own qestion:o

Thanks so much for the kind words ksounds. I really did enjoy your song.

This is the stuff I get stoned to now. Maybe thats why it seems to make sense to me. I dunno, I'm trying to meld all of my varied interests into one sound and sometimes it seems to work and sometimes not. I think the jury is still out on this one.

Thanks again.

Just to clarify, the "one take" part is completely false :o I do tons of takes sometimes and sometimes just one. What I meant was that I record each part all the way through until I find a take I can live with. No real editing. I've tried to "punch in" and "punch out" but the transition is rarely smooth enough to be acceptable.

Now that I've heard Cold Cubin', all of life's other activities seem pointless and boring; all the color has drained from life.

Damn you, Heatmiser.

Damn you to hell.

Hmmm...pointless, boring and drained...always good to have that effect on someone. Thanks for checking it out.

Although I did not buy your frickin' album, I did check out little purple circles and I was very impressed. I especially liked the musical passage in the middle of Beautiful World. I've never heard an envelope filter sound so deep and resonant. Ususally they make an instrument sound thin or tinny. Nice goin'.

Thanks for the listen Tex...I'm gonna try and check out your tune soon, but have to run right now...

Thanks andyhix...

So WTF does "Cold Cubin'" mean?

Hmmm...not entirely sure actually.

I think my friend may have made it up? In the context of these lyrics specifically, it is some kind of slang for what pablo picasso was doing during his cubist period, but i think generally it could refer to anyone who is performing their craft at a high level...kicking ass at something basically...

Thanks andyhix...

Sweet. I'm gonna have to start working that into my day to day conversation.
