coil tapping

what in sam hell is coil tapping? i've read about this while looking at different pickups, it'll say either "humbucker w/ coil tap mini switch" or "humbucker w/ push push coil tap"
what is this i hear about?

Coil tapping is taking a humbucker, that has 4 leads (wires) to it, and connecting it to a switch to make it work as a single coil or a humbucker

Push/pull is refering to a switch where you pull up on the volume pot (knob) to get a single coil, mini switch is just that...one of those small 2 or 3 way switches.
