I can't find out much about it - like if it's free & how it compares w other recording software. thanks.

It's free.

Good beginner package.

Their plug-ins are actually quite good. And free.

They put lots of good stuff on their monthly CDs (oops, I guess they are going to start putting out DVDs with their next issue.) Lots of audio samples on their disks as well as lots of demo software, too.
