I want to record stuff. :) I'm essentially totally clueless. I was hoping someone could describe for me a basic, user friendly, not horribly expensive setup that a newb could assemble and work.

I don't need much, just the ability to record something and produce an mp3. I just want to record myself doing a few songs and go from there.

I don't even know what "mixing" is. What exactly is being mixed? What's a stereo field? Why do I care? What gets compressed when you do compression? How do you record 2 tracks seperately and then sync them up?

I feel lost. Can someone point me to a book or website? Every place I go seems to be made for people who already know what they're doing.

Sorry if I'm wasting your time.

mad dap

That is... *exactly* what I was looking for. Thank you!

You made me laugh!:D
I love music but know very little about making it. I've read some very interesting stuff here about mixing. you should just cruise around and see what you can pick up.

this helped me out alot...

I read two books when I started that helped a lot. Guerrilla Recording by Karl Coryat which just kinda merged me into the lingo and basic knowledge. Then The Mixing Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinski. This one made everything sound so much better. I strongly recommend giving them a chance.

Thanks,
Matt
