Anybody know of some good closed back headphones to use while recording vocals, so the sound from the phones doesn't bleed into the vocal track? I'm recording in my room with no sound treatment, so the quieter the phones are the better.

If you're looking for some isolation headphones, I've got a set we use for the drummer...gives something like 60 dB isolation from the outside world...they sound fairly decent...product is "Metrophones". Not sure if this would be what you're looking for.

Sounds like it might work. I'm not even sure if what I'm trying to do is the "norm" for recording vocals. When a vocalist is in a booth and recording vocals to a song, are they using headphones specially made to prevent the music from bleeding into the mic? Or is this something that is just usually taken care with waveform editing after the vocal track's been laid down? I was always under the assumption that "closed back" headphones were phones designed to prevent sound from leaking out for this purpose, maybe I was wrong though.

Now you've got my attention...if you're getting audio from the headphone into your mic, then yes, these will certainly help but you might want to shop around...search for isolation headphones.

They're usually a closed back headphone with a nice tight seal around the ear. Their design isn't specifically to keep audio in the headphone but rather to keep audio out. Drummers like them because it attenuates the drum sound and allows them to better hear the band or click track.

The metrophones maybe over-kill because they have built int metranome circuit but something similar to their design should work for you. Contact Harvey Gerst as if his "More Me" headphones will work for you.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I'll look into some iso phones and see what I can find.
