Hi, I've flicked through some forums and articles, on here and on gear slutz etc etc but cant really find an answer, so....

BASICALLY i run a MOTU 828 Mk2, Focusrite octopre with adat extension (inwhich the output is connected to the 828 via lightpipe), Tc electronic finalizer via the motu's lightpipe out....and a bunch of processors, compressors and reverbs via the outputs of the motu, but i was wondering what gain would i have in clocking the motu, octopre and finalizer with a master unit or by using the motu as the master clock, because at the moment, all the clocks are set as "internal".
Would there be a sonic difference?

I hope someone can answer this!

Many thanks!

Luke

With a digital chain, you *must* clock from a master clock.

Sonic difference?

You probably won't hear all the pops and clicks and distortion from combating clocks.

All of your digitaly connected stuff should be clocking off of the same source. The motu would probably be the most useful thing to clock to, since that's what everything is connected to.

You won't get a quality jump, it will just keep you from having clicks and pops from not having everything clocked to the same source.

okay cheers!!
so if i link a BNC cable from the motu into the focusrite, then from the focusrite to the finalizer?

then set the units to "external clock"?

Thanks
Luke

Set the motu to internal clock and everything else to external clock
