clipping problem

I just began today to record guitar using n-track - I had only been importing wavs from Fruity Loops up to this point. I recorded several tracks and was careful to prevent clipping. When each track is played individually, ther are no clips. But when the whole mix is played, there are several places where clips occur, according to the playback meters. How can this be?

In addition, several guitar phrases are repeated in the song - I recorded the phrase once and then copied and pasted. In one place, a phrase might cause a clip, but in other places the same phrase plays just fine.

Yep, the more you add, the louder it all gets.

I think you can turn down the master channel volume to overcome that problem. There's also a setting to "Automatically decrease volume as tracks are added". Click File, Settings, go to the Options tab, and you'll see it near the bottom of the tab. I haven't used that setting, but it might help you. I just back down the master channel volume manually.
