Hi,

I'm using Adobe Audition with an Audiophile 2496 sound card. When recording in Audition, I get frequent clicks in my recording. When I record with the Windows Sound Recorder, I don't. That's why I think the trouble is with by Audition settings, not my sound card settings.

I've tried playing with the buffer settings in Options/Settings/System and Options/Settings/Multitrack without any appreciable difference.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It seems that if I record at 16-bit, the problem goes away. My sound card can do 24-bit. My understanding was that I should set Audition to 32-bit recording (since 24- isn't availble).

I didn't find any IRQ conflicts.

Yeah, record and mix at 32-bit for a 24-bit soundcard.

As for the rest, I'm not sure. There are problems that crop up as a result, not of one thing, but of the interaction of two or more things (if you're unlucky).

I've never found that changing the buffer settings made a huge difference.

I was getting loads of pops and clicks and even stuttering on large files a while back, and it was the result of various crap operating on my system that I'd picked up browsing the net. I downloaded Spybot, and cleared most of it out. It still wasn't completely sweet even then though, so I did a Windows98 reinstall, and that got everything as good as it gets.

If it records fine in 16 bit, but not in 32 bit, you might give this a shot...it helped me awhile back when I installed a new soundcard on a different computer.

Go into "Device Properties" and try changing the default to the first one where I've circled. If the default IS the first one, then try the second one. Then just start randomly hitting buttons in a fit of rage until it works.

Thanks for your replies! This computer is quite new, so I don't have much running on it. I disabled the virus-scan too--good idea. The problem doesn't really have the feel of a jittery memory problem, since it doesn't seem to be struggling and the load meter shows that everything's ok.

I tried playing with those 32-bit settings as was suggested. It turns out that the problem does occur with 16-bit recording too, just not as frequent, so the problem may not be with those settings after all. At any rate, I tried every permutation with no luck. Rage was involved, but alas.

I'll try to explain the problem a bit better. What happens is an occasional (but irregular) click in the recorded sound. You can actually see where the waveform gets a vertical slant, rather than a natural curve, kind of as if a few samples got skipped.

It could very well be a sound card setting. The Windows wav recorder doesn't seem to exhibit the problem to the same extent that Audition does, though.

it could be clicks from the electrical net

for example everytime my fridge shuts off/on its compressor
it "clicks" in my stereo
