much of the work I do is OG, but a few tracks I have use some samples and i can't post them until I clear them. YES I'm new, and I was wondering how I go about clearing the samples. Any Suggestions?

Nobody gives a rat's ass about this issue unless you are making money reselling samples in your work.

Even then they dont give a shit unless the money is significant enough to warrant their attention. Kany West is big. Most of us are not. In the words of my Lawyer, for pete's sake:

Do whatever you want. I would not waste any energy worrying about samples. If you get to a point where you need to clear them, you will be successful enough that you'll have someone to deal with that when the time comes.

Wouldn't you just feel stupid if your work DID catch on, got some airplay and record companies came to you begging to sign you up with a carload of money....

...and then they learned you didn't get permission to use the samples.

Sometimes I guess you just have take a chance. Chances are that if someone came to you with a carload of money the sampleclearance wouldn't really be a problem, cause that's just what the sample owner wants aswell...monaaaay...and with a carload I'm sure you could have spared some of it. After all, if the track isn't worth s*** without the sample, then sharing the money seems fair.
Now...I live in norway so the chances of someone showing up with a carload of money cause they like my stuff is rather slim...actually it's more likely that Britney will be bootycalling me than for that to happen. Which kinda makes me not care alot about the sample issue. If I use one and someone has a problem with it I'll kill the beat if that's the issue. There has been a couple of cases of that here in norway and it really didn't blow up all that much. As long as you don't make any money on the beat, it shouldn't be a problem.

Please excuse me...If you need me I'm sitting firmly beside my phone waiting for Brit...hehe

Also something worth thinking about: Is the sample really unique? and easily recognisable? If not it's even less of a problem.

as someone said above dont sweat samps until the compostion is making noise...
When the composition is making noise you would have to contact the sound recording owner of sample (normally the label).

Until then sample away dogg....

is there a price tag on samples if so how does it work is it per seconds or what
somebody put me on
i don't know how to sample yet perhaps one day ( i do have 2 state of the art samplers in my sequencers though at least according to users)

do you clear the sample now maybe for a lower price since it's not on bet/mtv/hot 97 yet
or do you wait til it's on heavy rotation in all airwaves to sign that big check

Price usually varies based on the popularity of the composition or artist the sample came from....

You probably would get a lower price on a sample clearance if you do it b4 it blows. But what if it doesn't blow ???? that money isn't refundable...
