Cleaning up the HD and .BUN files

I'm attempting to clean up my hard drive by storing all of my songs (projects) on CDs.

My existing filing systems is NOT optimal as I have project (.wrk) fiiles stored in one folder and the audio (.wav) files are way over in another. I plan to change this org system once I have all the songs (and their .wav files safely stored on CDs). Recomendations on this would be appreciated.

Question: My project files are currently saved as .wrk files. If I save them as Bundle files (.bun) will all the corresponding audio files be contained within it and subsequently in that folder? I would like to be able to burn all the songs (after converting them to .bun's) onto a CD and then erase all the large .wav data that is stored on my hard drive. However, I just want to make sure that by doing this I'm not going to permanently erase any neccessary files.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Brad

- Save it to *.bun
- Burn the *.bun to cd
- Erase the project file
- Run Clean Audio Disc
- Unless you're using SONAR, which uses seperate folders for the wavefiles of each project file (or so I'm told), never delete the *.wav files on your audiodisc yourself!

That's how I always did it...(before I had my archive disc)

A bun does contain all the audio data for your project but does not get unpacked into the same directory, at least not traditionally (they have added support for "manual" file mahnagement in the last year, but I haven't felt the need to use it so I'm not sure how that affects this issue).

I believe that if you open a bun file from a CD, say, the audio portion is copied into your current WAV data directory (the same place any new takes that you record get placed by default). If you save it back to your local hard drive as a wrk file now, I believe the audio data stays there as if you had just recorded it.

If you save it on your local hard drive as a BUN, I'm not sure if the audio pieces remain in the WAV directory, but I suspect they do. If you did a "clean audio disk" operation later I'm not sure if the audio pieces are deleted or not -- I suspect they are - there's no real need to keep them around if they are packed away in the bun file.

Great!

So... I'm guesing "Clean Audio Disc' erase all .wav files that are associated with deleted project files?

And Moskus...can you give a one sentence description of the app that you attached? I'm at work and will not be able to play around with it until tonight.

Thanks,

Brad

It finds all the waves that have been recorded with Sonar and what projects they belong to. And if they don't belong to any project, they show up as "Orphaned". :)

Hey, AlChuck.............have you always been a Sonar user? I see you a lot in the MIDI Mania forum, but not so much in here. Just wonderin'!
